Jones Farm CSA - Community Supported Agriculture

There are more than 40 farms in Massachusetts offering Community Suppored Agriculture (CSA), and now for the third year in Chelmsford, Jones Farm, located at 246 Acton Road, is again offering the community a chance to be members of CSA and enjoy fresh organic and bio nutrient dense produce at less than farm stand prices from June through October. The benefit to the consumer is eating healthier, tastier, locally grown vegetables based on new soil mineralization practices. Members also have access to farm grown herbs. Cut flowers are available to purchase as an additional part of a CSA Membership as well as local milk and local eggs.

What is CSA?

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a mutually beneficial collaboration between local farmers and their customers to support local agriculture and the availability of fresh, sustainably grown produce. The CSA concept is becoming increasingly popular as consumers look for ways to eat healthier and reduce their carbon footprint on the earth - in other words, eliminate the cost to transport vegetables and fruit to our local community for consumption. With many farms in jeopardy, CSA also provides an easy way to help farmers remain in business. Customers pay in advance of the growing season for fresh produce (at a rate below farm stand prices) and reap the benefits throughout the growing season. It's good for the consumer, the farmer, and the earth.

How is the Jones Farm

CSA Program Different?

Jones Farm, owned by Phil and Deb Jones, has operated a farm stand in Chelmsford for more than 20 years. Phil has always had an interest in learning as much as he could from other experienced farmers, and increases his knowledge even today through special workshops and agricultural courses. His greatest interest is growing the most bio-nutrient dense vegetables and understanding the science behind good soil and the resulting health benefits.

The Jones Farm CSA program offers more than simply a chance to support a local farm – it is partnering with customers to improve the soil to get the healthiest, best tasting, most nutritious produce around.  We use all natural organic methods to grow all of our vegetables.  Using high density nutritional methods raises the brix level (see below) resulting in optimum plant performance.  In other words, we are building healthier living soil to provide you with much better vegetables.  Increasing the brix level is a process that improves the soil each season.

We are happy to introduce Cape Ann Fresh Catch to you!

Check out their website, discuss it with your family and determine whether a fish share is right for you.
These Gloucester fisherman are bringing the freshest fish to you on an every other week basis. Unless your at a pier, you cannot get fresher fish.

Jones Farm has had recent discussions with Cape Ann Fresh Catch (CAFC). For those unfamiliar with CAFC, they're a Community Supported Fishery. Similar to a CSA, CAFC distributes seafood instead of vegetables.

Cape Ann Fresh catch www.capeannfreshcatch.org is looking to start delivering their seafood shares to Jones Farm beginning with their Spring 2012 season. Delivered every other week starting March 15th, they'll have 6 deliveries for their Spring season. Subsequent summer, fall and winter seasons could follow.

However, as with all Commnity Supported Food Programs, there is an economic viability threshold that has to be met. CAFC needs at least 40 shares to make bi-weekly delivery site viable for them.

CAFC has set up an email account, chelmsford@capeannfreshcatch.org, that you can email to express interest in joining their program. By emailing them directly, CAFC will have your email addres and then be better able to answer any of your questions and to gauge interest in making Jones Farm a delivery site.

Again, please email CAFC directly at

chelmsford@capeannfreshcatch.org

or visit their website

www.capeannfreshcatch.org

to learn more about their program.
