CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a mutually beneficial collaboration between local farmers and their customers to support local agriculture and the availability of fresh, sustainably grown produce. The CSA concept is becoming increasingly popular as consumers look for ways to eat healthier and reduce their carbon footprint on the earth - in other words, eliminate the cost to transport vegetables and fruit to our local community for consumption. With many farms in jeopardy, CSA also provides an easy way to help farmers remain in business. Customers pay in advance of the growing season for fresh produce (at a rate below farm stand prices) and reap the benefits throughout the growing season. It's good for the consumer, the farmer, and the earth.
Jones Farm, owned by Phil and Deb Jones, has operated a farm stand in Chelmsford for more than 20 years. Phil has always had an interest in learning as much as he could from other experienced farmers, and increases his knowledge even today through special workshops and agricultural courses. His greatest interest is growing the most bio-nutrient dense vegetables and understanding the science behind good soil and the resulting health benefits.
The Jones Farm CSA program offers more than simply a chance to support a local farm – it is partnering with customers to improve the soil to get the healthiest, best tasting, most nutritious produce around. We use all natural organic methods to grow all of our vegetables. Using high density nutritional methods raises the brix level (see below) resulting in optimum plant performance. In other words, we are building healthier living soil to provide you with much better vegetables. Increasing the brix level is a process that improves the soil each season.
